He expressed these views while addressing the inaugural function of the 8th International Diabetes and Ramadan Conference 2022 organized by the Ramadan and Hajj Study Group on Tuesday.

Mufti Taqi Usmani said that the opinion of health experts and modern research has proved that people suffering from high blood pressure and obesity including diabetes can easily fast. Fasting is one the best way for hyperglycemia treatment. Modern research has also proved that diabetes and such For people suffering from diseases, fasting in Ramadan is very beneficial for their health.


He said that some people have a misconception that people with all kinds of diseases and travelers are not allowed to fast in the Shari'a. If there is a fear of physical harm, they are allowed not to fast after consulting a health expert and they can make up for it.



The two-day International Diabetes and Ramadan Conference was organized in collaboration with the Survival Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology and the Diabetes and Ramadan International License.

Secretary General of Diabetic Association of Pakistan Prof. Abdul Basit, Prof. Yaqub Ahmadani, Prof. Ejaz Vohra, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hasnain from UAE, Vice Chancellor of Lahore University of Health Sciences Prof. Javed Akram, Dr. Salma Mehr from UK, Dr. Saif-ul-Haq, Dr. Zahid Mian and other experts addressed the gathering.


Speaking at the conference, renowned health expert Prof. Ejaz Vohra said that fasting is not only an important means of self-purification and physical worship but it is also a very useful practice for human health. As a result, their sugar control can be greatly improved.


Prof. Ejaz Vohra further said that checking the sugar in the state of fasting does not break the fast and if a person's normal glucose levels goes below 70, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar symptoms) that is Heartbeat becomes irregular, panic and start sweating then for such a patient. If blood sugar levels falls below 50 It is permissible to break the fast.


Leading diabetes expert and Secretary General of the Diabetic Association of Pakistan, Prof. Abdul Basit said that before 2008, 90% of health experts advised people with diabetes and prediabetes symptoms

not to fast, due to which most of the people suffering from this disease have this important physical condition. They were deprived of spiritual worship.


He said that in 2008 he started research with the help of Professor Yaqub Ahmadani on whether people with diabetes can fast and if local and international research proves that people suffering from many other diseases including diabetes are experts. With the advice of health you can fast the whole of Ramadan with great success.


He said that he was working with various institutions of Pakistan including Health Services Academy Islamabad, Jinnah Sindh Medical University and many other institutions to spread standard treatment of diabetes across the country while reaching out to people suffering from diabetes. Professor Yaqub Ahmadani, head of the Ramadan and Study Group and organizing secretary of the conference, said he had been trying to spread awareness among diabetics about Ramadan and Hajj for the past 14 years and had organized eight conferences so far.


He added that for the past several years, they have been focusing on training doctors, including public awareness programs, to help diabetics make the most of Hajj, Umrah and Ramadan.
