 What is Cancer?

Cancer or malignancy or Neoplasm is a condition in which body cells in humans divide and multiply at an uncontrolled rate resulting in the formation of swollen part and may produce many symptoms. 
Cancer can be in any part or organ of the body at any age it can affect the person.
For awareness of the General public, a day at world level is celebrated labels as "world Cancer Day" on 4th February each year. Seminars and discussion held for various kinds of cancer types its diagnosis and treatment. 

Cancer is classified in different stages of cancer, depending upon it severity.
For example: 
  • Stage 1,
  • Stage 2,
  • Stage 3 &
  • Stage 4.

How cancer Spread to other part of body?

Cancer may spread due to the blood circulation to the other parts of the body and affect any muscle, bone, breast, brain, lungs, heart or liver. If cancer spread through one organ it is named as Metastatic Cancer. For example, Breast cancer may spread to the lungs or any other body part it will be known as Metastatic breast cancer.

How long it take to cause symptoms?

Some cancer grow at much faster speed than others and some cancer cells grow at slower speed. 

How cancer is detected?

Some cancer are detected accidentally while investigating for other illnesses.There are many test for the detection of cancer for different body parts. 
For example, Mammography is a test used for the detection of Lump in breast. Bone Scan is performed for the detection of mets in the bone.

What are symptoms of Cancer?

Some people have no symptoms at al at initial stages. Most common symptom of cancer is a pain, fever, body aches, fever or vomiting, weight loss, but there are some specific symptoms for certain organs. For example discharge from the Breast in Breast Cancer, Bleeding from the Rectum in Rectal Cancer. Fracture or bone weakness in bone cancer.

Why Cancer develops?

There are certain conditions or factors which can be labelled as Risk for development of cancer. For example
  • Age
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol 
  • Family History of cancer
  • Use of Chemicals  (Carcinogens)
  • Ultraviolet radiations exposure etc.
